We were tasked with creating an interactive wellness information app, for the insurance company Discovery. The purpose of the app is to educate and inspire 18 – 35-year-olds in a way that is both informative and entertaining, with the goal of encouraging behavioural lifestyle changes.
The app needs to have a focus on data visualisation and interactivity, with elements of play so the information is engaging and easy to understand.
We could choose between a focus on financial wellness, or health and wellness. For my project I chose health and wellness, and more specifically chose to focus on mental health as a contributor to general wellbeing.
People tend to place more importance on their physical health than their mental health when it comes to their general wellbeing.
Having an accountability buddy makes it easier for people to stick to their goals.
Ease
A focus on the feeling of ease that comes with good mental health. The app will act as a companion on the user’s mental health journey.
Ease aims to inspire users to take tangible steps in their daily life to improve their mental health, with the long-term goal of improving their overall wellbeing. The app provides a daily check-in quiz, where users track their mental state and what actions they have taken that day to improve their mental health. Users can use the data visualisations throughout the app to track how their mental health has changed over time.
A distinguishing feature of the app will be the integration of the accountability buddy system, where users are recommended to pair up with someone, either someone they choose or someone else using the app, to follow along on each other’s journey. The accountability buddy system will provide additional motivation to stay consistent, as well as support and companionship through the often difficult journey of trying to improve mental health.
